The signing of an agreement on liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Russia to Afghanistan may take place in May at Kazan Forum 2025, Rustam Khabibullin, head of the Russian business center in Afghanistan, said, RIA Novosti reported on January 10.

Khabibullin said that the Taliban (organization banned in Russia) offered Russia gas transit to Southeast Asia, and trial shipments have already been made.

It is known that in 2023, Russia and the Taliban (organization banned in Russia) agreed on the transit of 50 million tons of oil products, and in 2024 – the transit of two million tons of wheat and flour.

According to him, the countries intend to bring the trade volume to three billion dollars.

Last May, Khabibullin said trade turnover between Russia and Afghanistan reached one billion dollars. The main goods were oil, flour, wheat and dairy products.

According to the Afghan side, the country has positive development prospects if Russia increases financial investments.
