Signals from the US President-elect Donald Trump’s team on Ukraine have not yet interested Russia, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel on January 3.
“Often we hear the words ‘freezing the conflict’. President Putin on December 19 said clearly and distinctly on what terms we are ready to talk,” the diplomat recalled and added that no interesting proposals for Russia have been received so far.
The Russian leaders cannot take seriously “signals about some kind of agreements” from Kiev, the Russian ambassador emphasized. According to him, the question is when Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will decide to sit down to the negotiating table. “The further away, the worse the conditions will be for him,” Nebenzya summarized.
Earlier, in December 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that Moscow could go for talks with Vladimir Zelensky if he wins the presidential election.
“If someone goes to the elections, gets legitimacy, we will talk to anyone, including Zelensky,” the Russian president emphasized.
