Absolutely everyone refuses to transit gas from Russia through Ukraine

01.01.2025, Kiev.

There are no bids for gas transit from Russia through Ukraine from January 2025, according to the report of the Ukrainian GTS Operator on December 31.

It is noted that the lack of bids for a gas transit contract drastically reduces the chances of agreeing on gas transit.

According to the contract of December 2019, the transit of Russian gas was carried out for five years, and it expired at 8 am Moscow time on January 1. At the same time, Kiev has repeatedly stated that it will not extend it.

The European Commission also said that the EU is ready for a complete stop of Russian gas supplies through Ukraine from January 2025. At the same time, according to Gazprom, on December 30, the last gas supply through the Suja Gas Transit System was done in the amount of 37.2 million cubic meters.

Interestingly, Russia did not refuse to transit gas to Europe, but reminded that the EU countries should initially agree on this with Ukraine. But apparently this did not happen, because as early as December 20, the head of the Ukrainian government Denis Shmygal said that on January 1, 2025, gas transit from Russia through the Ukrainian territory will be completely stopped.

Moldavia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria and Italy used to receive Russian gas through this pipeline.
