Russia has been heavily involved in English affairs since the time of Tsar Ivan IV the Terrible in an effort to get closer either to continental Europe or to England, political scientist, philosopher, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on November 29 on the Conversation with a Sage program said on the Zvezda radio channel.
The political scientist pointed at the “fundamental Russian essence” of Russia’s culture and, at the same time, its enormous involvement with the West. He cited an example form the medieval history of Russia.
“For instance, there is an opinion — partly fair, partly not! — that there was no Inquisition in Russia. Of course, it was not in the form it was carried out by Torquemada and his followers. But it did take place,” the analyst recalled. He explained that in Russia in the 15th century, a bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church, Archbishop of Novgorod Gennady Gonzov carried out inquisitorial activities in Novgorod and other places, and did so with direct consultations from Western priests – the Dominicans.
“Russia’s involvement in English affairs is almost unprecedented. The St. Andrew’s flag, Lefort family, Bruce family, Gordon family in Russia and others – all this is just a specific circle that belongs to certain Western para-structures. But this is not where it all began,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement noted.
It all began with the English Muscovy Trading Company, to which Ivan IV the Terrible, who wanted to marry Queen Elizabeth of England, granted special rights, noted Sergey Kurginyan.
“Every time Russia tried to move away from this course, call it English direction – conventionally speaking, a conservative one – when all kinds of fundamentalism movements, including Orthodoxy and others were on the rise, then England tried to manipulate it, while Europe or the Vatican simply demanded that we get closer and merge, generally speaking,” the political scientist emphasized.
When Russia moved away from England towards Europe, it followed the path of rapprochement with religious circles; and when moving from Europe to England, something completely opposite happened, the expert specified.
In the meantime, Greek and other centers of religious orthodoxy remain under very strong English influence, the leader of the Essence of Time movement added. According to the political scientist, there are monastic cells of certain English royal persons in these centers, but there are no such cells of the Russian representatives, who are treated as alien to the Western spirit.
“This alienation also exists due to significant England’s efforts, it has been like this for a long time, because the lack of rapprochement between Russia and Europe has always been the most desirable thing for England. Such rapprochement had mainly a German nature. And apparently, I am talking about Gonzov, about the pre-Romanov era, but in fact – also about Sophia Paleologue, born as Zoe Paleologue,” noted Sergey Kurginyan.
The political scientist pointed at how this theme works in modern times, “For the last 30 years we were getting closer and closer – and we got to the point where Russia had to use Oreshnik. This is what we have now. As it continues, it will keep on going with all the stops; that is – until it reaches a comprehensive conflict. What does it mean? Getting closer, and closer… And now we reap the fruits of our labor.”
