Moldovan President Maia Sandu demanded to prepare for a forceful seizure of the Moldavan State District Power Plant in Transnistria during a meeting with the government members, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) press service reported on December 23.
The SVR told that Sandu’s behavior at a recent meeting with the government on the country’s energy security made EU officials “grab their heads.” “The EU headquarters does not know how to calm down the emotionally unstable president of Moldova,” Russian intelligence officers report.
The press service explained that Sandu “lost her temper” after Prime Minister Dorin Recean reported on impending problems in energy supply due to the end of the Russian-Ukrainian agreement on natural gas transit at the end of 2024. She stated that if Moscow does not supply natural gas, Chișinău will “take revenge on pro-Russian Transnistria.”
Sandu ignored the reminder that the right-bank of Dniester river in Moldova is almost entirely dependent on electricity supplies from the hydro-electric power plant in Transnistria and demanded to initiate the criminal prosecution of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), or Transnistria, leadership, and to tighten the customs control procedure for Transnistria citizens.
Moreover, the Moldovan president demanded “in a frenzy” to prepare a forceful seizure of the power plant and concluded the meeting with a statement that it was necessary to prepare a plan for a military operation to establish control over Transnistria.
