05.12.2024, Islamabad.

Islamabad and Moscow have begun discussions on the construction of the “Pakistan Stream” gas pipeline, Pakistan’s Energy Minister Sardar Leghari stated on December 5, as reported by RIA Novosti.

“Experts are working on it, and we will see what comes of it. Once they finish their work, we will review all the legal and financial commitments,” Leghari said.

According to him, Pakistan places significant importance on the agreement between Islamabad and Moscow for joint cooperation. At the same time, they aim to consider potential international economic and legal risks.

Earlier, a session of the Russian-Pakistani intergovernmental commission took place in Moscow, with Leghari co-chairing from the Pakistani side and Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev from the Russian side.

The “Pakistan Stream” pipeline, formerly known as “North-South,” will connect the liquefied gas reception infrastructure at the ports of Karachi and Gwadar in southern Pakistan with power plants and industrial gas consumers in the Kasur district (Punjab) in the north of the country. Its length will exceed 1,100 kilometers, with a capacity of up to 16 billion cubic meters per year.
