Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze: European politicians threatened Georgia with ‘Maidan’

04.12.2024, Tbilisi.

The plan of a number of European politicians and bureaucrats who threatened Georgia with a ‘Maidan’ has failed, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in an interview with a Hungarian political YouTube channel on December 4.

Some European politicians and bureaucrats directly threatened us with a Georgian ‘Maidan’. This idea will not come true,” Kobakhidze noted.

According to the Prime Minister, Georgia’s ill-wishers tried to organize the fourth attempt of a Georgian “Maidan”, but it failed as well, and there are no significant risks of collapse of the Georgian statehood at the moment.

Earlier, Kobakhidz said that the opposition is sacrificing Georgian youth at the behest of external “bosses.” The head of the government also noted that the lack of condemnation by European officials of systemic violence by protesters in Tbilisi undermines the confidence of Georgian society in European institutions.

He pointed out that Brussels is lying when it says that supposedly it is Georgia that has suspended the process of integration with the European Union. Kobakhidze also noted that the suspension of the strategic partnership with Georgia by the United States is nothing but “the desire of the resigning Biden administration to leave a difficult legacy to the Republicans.”

He emphasized that Tbilisi understands this very well, so they will wait for the new administration to talk to them on all issues.

Opposition protests in Georgia started after the head of the government Irakli Kobakhidze signed a resolution on November 28 on removing the issue of Georgia’s European integration from the agenda until 2028. Kobakhidze cited political blackmail by the European Union as the reason for the decision.
