Al Arabiya: Pro-Iranian Shiite groups from Iraq enter Syria

02.12.2024, Damascus.

Iraqi Shiite fighters crossed the Syrian border to assist the Syrian government forces in repelling terrorist attacks in the Aleppo and Idlib provinces, Al Arabiya wrote on December 2.

“Pro-Iranian Shiite groups entered from Iraqi territory to aid Syrian forces in combating terrorists,” the channel noted, citing an unnamed Syrian army representative.

The source explained that dozens of fighters from Iraqi Shiite formations, including the Popular Mobilization Forces, Kataib Hezbollah, and the Fatemiyoun movement, crossed the border near the city of Abu Kamal in the eastern Deir ez-Zor province. Reinforcement units are moving towards northern Syria and the city of Hama, the source emphasized.

Earlier, a representative of the armed coalition Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Farhad Shami, reported that Kurdish militias are holding the defense in the suburbs of Aleppo in Beni Zeid, Sheikh Maqsoud, and Al-Azamiya.
