Poland will expand its defensive fortification program, known as the “Eastern Shield,” to include the border with Ukraine, announced Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on November 30.
Previously, Tusk had announced the completion of the first section of fortifications under this program along the border with Russia (Kaliningrad Region). “This work will also extend to the border with Ukraine,” he stated on November 30.
Tusk emphasized that the country’s authorities aim to ensure that “Poles feel safe along the entire eastern border.”
10 billion zlotys (approximately $2.5 billion) have been allocated to implement the “Eastern Shield” program, which focuses on strengthening the borders with Russia and Belarus, from 2024 to 2028. The official goal is to create a comprehensive defense infrastructure for NATO to counter the alleged threat from the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
In an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, Russian President Vladimir Putin explained that Russia has no intention of attacking NATO, as it makes no sense, and that the scare tactics about a supposed threat from Moscow are used in the West as a tool to address internal political issues, a fact that many people understand well.
