South Korea refuses to sell weapons to Ukraine

28.11.2024, Seoul.

The South Korean government is against supplying weapons to Ukraine, the South Korean channel SBS stated on November 28, citing a government source.

“It is known that our government has expressed its objection,” the channel quoted the source.

On November 27, a high-level Ukrainian delegation led by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov arrived in Seoul. Ukraine requested South Korea to supply Cheongung air defense systems, radar stations for air defense and counter-battery warfare, and propellant charges for 155mm caliber shells. The Ukrainian authorities were willing to pay for these weapon supplies.

However, the Ukrainian delegates could not convince South Korean businessmen and government representatives to sell air defense systems and ammunition to Kiev.

Earlier, the South Korean agency Yonhap wrote about public protests in Seoul against the delivery of lethal weapons to Kiev.
