Russian engineers from the company LLC Dominanta in Tver developed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) named ‘Shturm-ST’ made from compressed polymeric foam covered with fiberglass, the company announced on November 28.
According to the developers, the UAV can be used for reconnaissance and as a kamikaze strike drone.
“The drone can be used for both reconnaissance and as a loitering munition. Batteries installed on Shturm-ST allow it to stay airborne for at least an hour. The aircraft has a very good carrying capacity and can carry up to 5 kg. The UAV is made from compressed polymeric foam covered with fiberglass,” the company stated, noting that the Shturm-ST has already undergone test trials and performed well.
The company also highlighted the low cost of the new drone – around $1,800 USD. “Thanks to the materials used, even in a single production, the cost remains low, especially when it comes to targeting hardware like US-made Bradley,” the developers added.
During testing, the UAV demonstrated resistance to electronic warfare measures. “The drone is planned to operate on non-standard frequencies currently used by the FPV drones of the Shturm series,” the developers concluded.
