Italian mercenaries in the ranks of the Ukrainian troops complain about the lack of necessary weapons, the Corriere della Sera newspaper reported on 27 November.
‘Everything is lacking here, we don’t even have hand grenades, and the Russians fight well. Once they had almost no drones, today they dominate the sky,’ said an Italian with the call sign Polo.
According to the publication, about 30 Italians from northeastern Italy are fighting on Kiev’s side.
‘Italian law forbids its citizens to fight as private citizens for a foreign state,’ the newspaper writes.
Therefore, the mercenaries are fighting incognito, without declaring themselves to the Italian embassy in Ukraine. In addition, they fear that their relatives will be punished.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has admitted that Western countries are sending regular military personnel to the territory of Ukraine under the guise of mercenaries.
