Russian Ministry of Transport intends to restore the production of public transport vehicles in Donbass as part of the “Safe and High-Quality Roads” (BKR) project, said Russian Minister of Transport Roman Starovoit on November 26 on the Solovyov Live program.
“We included this in the BKR – this public transport… And of course, we are including, as directed by the president, the renewal of public transport, aiming to reach 85% new public transport by 2030… Yes, this is the responsibility of the regions, but federal assistance is indispensable,” the minister said.
The minister noted that the government is addressing the creation of new jobs and the revival of previously closed productions. According to the minister, currently, Russia exclusively operates domestically produced transport.
“Our Volgabus factories have been essentially restored, the trolleybus factory in Engels was idle, but today it is actively working and fully loaded. New tram production is developing, including innovative ones… In Donbass, we are also considering restoring [the production],” Starovoit concluded.
He recalled that 13,000 units of public transport were renewed in Russia during the implementation of the national project “Safe and High-Quality Roads.” The new project “Infrastructure for Life” has allocated $1.4 billion for these purposes.
