Russia and Iran do not use the US dollar in mutual trade transactions, said the Governor of the Central Bank of Islamic Republic Iran Mohammad Farzin, Fars News Agency reported on November 25.
“We have entered into a currency agreement with Russia and fully abandoned the dollar, we now trade only in rials and rubles,” Farzin said.
The head of Iranian Central Bank also noted that the basis for mutual settlements will be “an agreed market exchange rate and a floating exchange rate.”
Russia and Iran agreed to completely switch to trade in national currencies back in 2022. As part of the agreement, both countries are working to simplify financial transactions.
Integration of payment systems is also taking place. It is expected that in the near future, Russian Mir cards and Iranian Shetab cards can be used in stores in Russia and Iran.
