The head of the German Defense Ministry’s Situation Center for Ukraine, Brigadier General Christian Freuding proposed training Ukrainian fighters at the battalion and brigade levels, Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform wrote on November 26.
Freuding discussed with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov Germany’s potential to enhance its support in training Ukrainian militants by German instructors.
“There are certain ideas for training, particularly at the level of your battalion and brigade staffs, to make them more effective and combat-capable,” Freuding stated.
The German general clarified that he does not see practical advantages in training Ukrainian militants in frontline areas or within Ukraine itself, as this would increase the risk of such facilities becoming targets for Russian Armed Forces.
