USA intends to impose a comprehensive embargo on trade with Russia

The United States is preparing to impose a “comprehensive” embargo on trade with Russia, RIA Novosti wrote on June 6 in a review article.

The publication notes that the need for such “extreme measures” for the United States is emerging due to a significant weakening of the effectiveness of anti-Russian restrictions.

At the same time, the USA’s anti-Russian restrictionist aspirations are constrained by the indispensability of many goods that the US still imports from Russia. It is noted that these are critical imports, in particular, supplies of oil, gas, metals, and nuclear fuel from Russia.

Thus, the USA still has an acute need for enriched uranium, palladium, and mineral fertilizers imported from Russia. The USA paid four billion dollars for these imports in 2023, according to the agency.

The publication also cites the data of Arina Tinkova, an expert of the Department of International Economic Relations of the Faculty of Economics at the Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, that the US imports about 100% of some types of phosphate fertilizers, about 70% of all potassium salts (carnallite and others), 60% of all urea and 40% of palladium and some other products of the chemical industry.

In turn, Russia is preparing for the US embargo by exploring alternative markets and seeking other buyers of Russian goods.
