Victory Day commemorative event took place in Madrid for the ninth time
On May 5, 2024, the Immortal Regiment procession marched through Madrid. The participants gathered at the corner of Paseo del Prado, and the procession started at 12:30 a.m. up Atocha Street.
Russian citizens living or temporarily staying in Spain, representatives of very many former republics of the USSR, and Spaniards whose relatives also participated in the fight against fascism during the Spanish Civil War and against Nazism during World War II took part in the event.
The organizers said that the action, as usual, was held with all the necessary permits from the Spanish authorities. The procession was guarded by reinforced police units, as last year representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora attempted to disrupt the procession with their aggressive actions.
The gathered people were in a festive mood. They sang songs of the Great Patriotic War.
Event participants carried portraits of their heroes and Victory banners, banners with the image of Jesus Christ in honor of Orthodox Easter, flags of Russia, banners of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, and various former Soviet republics.
This year, people from different provinces of Spain were planning to come to Madrid for the procession.
Due to the current complex international situation and Russophobia supported in Western countries, the preparation of the Immortal Regiment procession in Madrid this year was held with unprecedented support of Spanish groups.
The weather in Madrid was good, and the mood was festive. The procession was peaceful and solemn, without incidents. According to the organizers, about 2,000 people took part in this year’s action.
At the end of the procession, a Victory Day concert was held in Jacinto Venavente Square.
