Russian troops eliminated about six thousand foreign mercenaries who went to fight on the side of Ukraine during Russia’s special military operation, the Russian Defense Ministry wrote on its Telegram channel on March 14.
According to the defense ministry, Ukraine confirmed the elimination of 5,962 foreign mercenaries in over two years. At the same time, the total number of foreign mercenaries who arrived in Ukraine amounted to 13,387. The number of wounded mercenaries is not reported.
The largest number of eliminated mercenaries belonged to Poland – 2,960 arrived and 1,497 eliminated. Georgia is in second place, having sent 1,042 militants, of whom 561 were eliminated.
The USA lost 491 mercenaries killed out of a total of 1,113 mercenaries sent to Ukraine. Of the 1,005 Canadian mercenaries in Ukraine, 422 were killed.
The UK lost 360 of the 822 fighters sent to Ukraine. It is also reported that 349 of the 784 mercenaries sent from Romania have been destroyed. Of 235 German mercenaries, 88 were destroyed.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that although France denies the presence of its mercenaries in Ukraine, however, out of 356 French mercenaries, 147 militants have already been destroyed.
In September 2023, The New York Times wrote that wounded mercenaries were being treated at the Pentagon’s Landstuhl hospital in Germany. In November 2023, CNN wrote that many foreign mercenaries had started leaving Ukraine because of the fierce fighting.
