S-500 ABM system tests confirm its readiness to intercept hypersonic target

01.03.2024, Moscow.

Successful tests of the S-500 Prometey anti-ballistic missile system developed by the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern confirmed its readiness to repel attacks by the entire range of US aerospace attack assets, Lieutenant General Aitech Bizhev, former deputy chief of the Air Force for the Commonwealth of Independent States joint air defense system, said on February 29.

According to Bizhev, tests of the S-500 system showed that it can intercept a target traveling at hypersonic speed. In addition, the Prometheus and other systems in service with the Russian Air Force are being constantly improved and upgraded.

The lieutenant general also said that the status of US ICBM assets “is constantly monitored by Russian intelligence. As soon as it receives data on the emergence of new enemy ICBMs, the Defense Ministry passes this information to the industry so that it can quickly finalize existing and prospective systems for subsequent testing.”
