More than 1.5 thousand people were lost by the AFU during the liberation of Avdeevka by Russian troops, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reported on February 18.
The ministry reported the complete liberation of Avdeevka ( DPR) on February 17 as a result of an offensive by the Russian Armed Forces Group “Center”. At the same time, the Russian military advanced to a depth of 8.6 kilometers and took control of a territory of 31.75 square kilometers.
“The enemy lost more than 1.5 thousand servicemen“, – stated in the message.
The AFU on the night of February 17 announced the withdrawal of troops from Avdeevka for the sake of defense on “more favorable ground.” Later they admitted that some of their servicemen were captured while leaving the city.
Earlier it was reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin received a report from Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov on the ongoing offensive near Avdeevka, during which Russian troops are preventing the enemy from gaining a foothold on new borders.
