The Kremlin explained why Europe needs statements about a possible war with Russia

04.02.2024, Moscow.

European countries’ statements about a possible war with Russia are intended to create an enemy image and justify the growth of military spending, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview for the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin” on the Russia 1 TV channel on February 4.

They need to further sculpt the enemy, to do it vividly, convexly in order to justify the increase in spending as well,” the spokesman said.

Peskov recalled the crisis in the economy of European countries, in particular, the loss of competitiveness of whole industries in Germany, which is the economic engine of the EU. Against this background, the allocation of even such a relatively small amount as 50 billion euros to Kiev is also quite sensitive for Europe.

That’s why an enemy image is being created and maintained in order to divert attention from the EU’s own economic problems. And Russia, according to European politicians, is the best option for such an enemy, Peskov said.
