Kurginyan assesses Russia’s chances in a war of attrition against Ukraine

05.02.2024, Moscow.

Russia’s chances to win a war of attrition are higher than Ukraine’s given that the West keeps away, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on January 27 on the program Right to Know on channel TVC.

The issue is whether they (Europe and the West – Rossa Primavera News Agency) will become involved and to what extent. And we can see that it is not only space, not only some guidance systems etc. More and more, little by little, as in Vietnam long ago, the Western personnel themselves are entering,” the political scientist said.

According to Kurginyan, the West is slowly starting, probing, and entering, and the only thing it makes its stake on is a destabilization in Russia. To this end, according to the political scientist, Ukraine will use increasingly long-range weapons to raise the costs for Russian cities and the Russian territory.

Kurginyan noted that the situation is evolving and creeping like a lithosphere plate.

In the context of this drift of the plates and the feeling that ‘it’s either you or me,’ who has higher chances to win a war of attrition? Only Russia has, given that the West does not become involved in this Ukrainian machine in a dramatically greater extent than it is involved now. So far, it keeps away,” Kurginyan said.

The political scientist added that, although he is unaware of the plans of the Russian General Staff, logically, a war of attrition in Ukraine does not seem to be worst option, and this war is being waged. However, Kurginyan stressed that this war is absolutely different from other wars, and it is not similar to anything like the Iran-Iraq war etc.
