Poland’s former prime minister makes unexpected confession about Ukraine

13.01.2024, Warsaw.

Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki acknowledged the failure of the Ukrainian counter-offensive and NATO’s concern about the situation in Ukraine in general on 12 January in an interview with the British publication Express.

“The counteroffensive that our Ukrainian friends and partners launched at the end of last spring was not successful,” Morawiecki said. That is why “Ukraine remains of great concern to us and to the whole of NATO,” the former prime minister said.

In addition, Morawiecki believes that Russia “has great resources in terms of industry, people.” The politician pointed to a growing threat from Russia, as it uses these resources to build up its army and weapons production.

“Using this, they [in Russia] are recruiting more and more troops,” Morawiecki said, “and have started to produce several hundred tanks a year, while in Europe we produce maybe a few dozen tanks a year, if not less.”

The publication notes that this admission by the Polish politician was made against the background of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s visit to Kiev. It is planned that during the visit, Sunak will announce a new aid package for Ukraine in the amount of 2.5 bn pounds sterling.
