The head of Germany’s farmers’ union announces strike plan

24.12.2023, Berlin.

A plan for strikes to protest the German government’s planned removal of tax breaks was announced by the head of Germany’s farmers’ union, Joachim Rukwied, on December 23 in a video message posted on the X social network (formerly Twitter).

The German government is sticking to its plans to raise taxes. There can only be one answer to this. We continue,” Rukwid stated.

He announced that farmers will begin a week of protest demonstrations on January 8. “We will hold protests all over Germany,” he emphasized and called on the country’s authorities to abandon plans to raise taxes.

According to Rukwied, the protests should culminate in a mass demonstration in Berlin. It is scheduled for January 15.

In addition, the head of the German Farmers’ Union called on representatives of other professions to join the farmers’ demonstration. The trucking industry has responded to his call and will protest against the increase in road tolls during the same period.
