Poland’s government intends to extend ban on grain imports from Ukraine

22.12.2023, Warsaw.

The ban on imports of Ukrainian grain will be maintained, Polish Agriculture Minister Czesław Siekierski told the Polish news agency PAP on December 22.

“For the near future, we must maintain the blockade on grain imports from Ukraine,” the Polish minister said. According to him, otherwise there will be an imbalance on the market of agricultural products.

Siekierski emphasized that even the threat of punitive sanctions from the European Commission would not affect the decision taken by the Polish government. He added that Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski had already traveled to Ukraine to settle the disagreements.

In September, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that Poland would not lift the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain.

In April, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary imposed a ban on grain imports from Ukraine. On 22 November, the Slovak government decided to extend the embargo.
