Journalist: German government is building a realm of dreams without taking reality into account

15.12.2023, Berlin.

The German government is building a realm of dreams, unwilling to acknowledge the harsh reality, German journalist André Mielke wrote in an article published in the Berliner Zeitung newspaper on December 12.

Mielke drew attention to a phrase recently uttered by Economy Minister Robert Habeck (Union 90/Greens), “We are encircled by reality.” Milke in turn noted that German politicians do not take the reality into account and even compared them to Field Marshal General Friedrich Paulus in Stalingrad.

“An oil painting appears on my mental canvas: groups of righteous people who set out to build the realm of dreams… But, alas, they find themselves in a cauldron of battles with harsh realities, primarily the laws of economics and physics. Will the visionaries be able to withstand the onslaught of the enemy from all sides longer than General Field Marshal Paulus in Stalingrad?” the journalist wrote.

Mielke ironically added that the German government, and Habeck in particular, might be frustrated by the behavior of a reality that “is neither willing to acknowledge the moral superiority of his plans nor to leave the field in shame.”

André Mielke is a longtime journalist. He has worked as an editor at Berliner Zeitung, Eulenspiegel, Berliner Morgenpost and Die Welt. Since 2002, he has been a freelance columnist for Berliner Zeitung.
