Merkur: Western countries continue to supply goods to Russia, circumventing sanctions

11.12.2023, Berlin.

Western companies continue to supply goods to Russia despite sanctions, Merkur wrote on December 9.

Goods from Western countries do not enter Russia directly, but indirectly, for example, through Turkey or former Soviet republics.

Companies from Germany also use these routes to supply their goods to Russia. German exports of cars and auto parts to Kyrgyzstan, for example, increased by 5500%, 720% to Kazakhstan, 450% to Armenia and 340% to Georgia.

It is emphasized that other European countries, including Poland and Lithuania, which aggressively use anti-Russian rhetoric, are also circumventing the sanctions.

In some cases, these are so-called dual-use products, i.e. products suitable for both civilian and military purposes.

The West imposed anti-Russian sanctions with the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. Since then, it has constantly expanded its sanctions lists.

At the same time, Asian countries, such as India, China, ASEAN and Middle East states, Saudi Arabia and Iran, are in no hurry to join the anti-Russian actions. Turkey is also not planning to impose sanctions against Russia to preserve a channel for dialog. Latin American countries also refused to join the sanctions.
