Ukraine reports first teenager killed at the front line

04.12.2023, Kiev.

The first 17-year-old teenager, mobilized from one of the orphanages, was killed during the fighting in Ukraine, Olesya Chikel, director of the orphanage from which the young Ukrainian fighters were drafted, said on her Twitter page on December 4.

She said that the first group of young children from Ukrainian orphanages came from the training camp Gaydamatskaya Sech to the 103rd brigade of the Ukrainian armed units under the command of Colonel Valeriy Kurko. It was assumed that they would be used in the rear of the Kharkov region as reservists, but the dead teenager turned out to be a participant in the fighting near Novoselovskiy in the Lugansk People’s Republic, i.e. at the front.

This is the first officially confirmed case of deaths of mobilized teenagers in the Ukrainian armed units.

Nazi Germany had previously used children for sabotage work behind Soviet lines during the Great Patriotic War. Children were trained to be sent into the territory of the USSR for observation and sabotage work. This involved, for example, planting explosives in piles of coal used as fuel.
