Hungarian politician asks who will pay for Ukraine’s EU accession

03.12.2023, Hungary.

What will be the cost of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, and who will pay? This question was asked by the State Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Hungarian Parliament Csaba Domotor on his page on Facebook (organization banned in Russia) on December 3.

Domotor visited Kiev on a working visit and said that the Ukrainian authorities have prepared everything for joining the European Union. How Ukraine’s European integration will turn out and who will pay for it – these are the questions that concern the official. No one is giving an answer to them yet.

Perhaps this is all very well, but how much will it cost?” writes Domotor.

Ukraine is a fairly large country compared to other EU member states, and a broken country at that. It will require billions and billions of euros to rebuild it after European integration.

It is planned that Ukraine will be given 61 billion euros from the Cohesion Fund, after which this fund will refuse to support 9 EU member states, because there will be no money left. That is, the national interests of at least 9 countries will be jeopardized.

And since Ukraine is a predominantly agricultural country, all agricultural subsidies will go there. Hungary is interested in preventing this, because it means that at least 20% of the subsidies will be cut off.
