If “the West and Ukraine’s partners will delay with the necessary assistance to the Ukrainian armed units, 2024 could be a favorable year for Russia,” Czech President Petr Pavel said in an interview with Corriere della Sera on November 28.
Pavel stated that the world has only one right choice: to give everything Kiev needs. In Pavel’s opinion, “any lesser assistance will turn out to be a defeat for the West.”
The Czech president said that 2024 will be an even more difficult test for the people of Ukraine and “if there is not enough help, people will lose hope. Negative sentiments among Ukrainians will not allow the counteroffensive to continue.”
“It will be difficult for people, and with the indecisiveness of the countries that are now supporting Ukraine, the sense of frustration will grow,” Pavel said, explaining that he was evaluating as Czech leader in terms of principles and not just in the context of military affairs.
In his view, a Russian victory would prove to other regimes that the West has weakened, so 2023 “is a key year in the West’s efforts in the context of providing aid to Ukraine.”
