After the end of international competitions, hundreds of Ukrainian athletes did not return home fearing mobilization, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported on 19 November.
“The Ukrainian Sports Ministry has decided to close a page on its website that listed athletes who did not return to Ukraine from international competitions to avoid mobilization,” former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov wrote on his social media page.
According to Azarov, the “list already contains 304 names, among which are outstanding chess and soccer players representing Ukraine at world competitions.”
Azarov noted that the number of Ukrainian athletes evaders is becoming a mass phenomenon.
General mobilization was introduced in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Men aged 27-60 years are subject to mobilization.
