The Russian payment system Mir works on the entire territory of Venezuela, said the country’s Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto on November 16 after a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
Pinto arrived in Moscow on Wednesday, November 15, on a three-day official visit. He held talks with Lavrov the following day. The Venezuelan minister held a briefing for journalists after it. In particular, he spoke about the Mir payment system.
“Today, the Mir platform allows payments to be made on 100% of the territory of the entire Venezuela,” the Izvestia newspaper quoted Pinto as saying.
According to him, about 40% of stores in the country accept the corresponding payment cards. One can use Mir payment cards in all points of sale on the island of Margarita, for example. This large resort is more often chosen for vacation by Russian tourists.
On October 1, the director of the Latin American department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Aleksandr Shchetinin, said that Mir payment cards are accepted in the capital of Venezuela, Caracas.
