Israel must stop being a consumer society and start building a man of spirit and asceticism to save itself, political scientist, philosopher, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on October 21 on the Right to Know! program on the TVC channel.
The political scientist noted that if Israelis are ready to carry the heavy burden of the Israeli statehood, they should first and foremost stop looking servilely in the direction of the United States.
“I spoke about this in the presence of the Americans at these conferences, saying, ‘Israel should be a boat that can follow the route of a US aircraft carrier and can go on its own, but you have turned Israel into a barge that is in tow by US rope, what will happen when the rope is cut?’” Essence of Time’s leader explained.
Secondly, in his opinion, Israel must change its attitude toward Russia. This state must recall its history and revise its past. And, as the political scientist emphasized, Israelis must stop focusing on a “comfortable” life.
“And the main thing is that you cannot live comfortably on this powder keg, but you can live happily, disciplined, militarized on it… And they used to live like that, damn it! I still witnessed the remnants of this life in the early 1990s: a more modest life, more asceticism, more attention to the security services and the army, a different level of some kind of patriotic enthusiasm,” Sergey Kurginyan said.
Essence of Time’s leader went on to describe how for 30 years he had watched Israel’s continuous transition to a consumerist state. A cult of wealth and hedonism was created there. At the same time, the army was shifted to the periphery. At the same time, as Kurginyan noted, there was “an increasing reliance on some kind of high technology rather than on man, a gradual transformation of this sabra, this new Israeli from a warrior and the like into a weak and relaxed person, this relative cosmopolitanism (the United States or Europe and so on are also not bad for life?)”
The political scientist emphasized that such a lifestyle will lead to Israel’s downfall. To save itself, this state must completely change.
“If Israel nevertheless wants to exist there, it cannot exist as a comfortable state, it must build a man of spirit, asceticism, a proper army and everything else. It must become an order in its essence. And if it does not become this, it will lead to Israel’s death. In its totallity!” Kurginyan summarized.
