The Ukrainian authorities have decided to legislate the renunciation of Orthodox Christmas, such an initiative was put forward by the President of the country Vladimir Zelensky as follows from the documents of the Verkhovnaya Rada on June 28.
Zelensky offered the parliament to change the dates of the three holidays:
- Move to December 25 the celebration of Christmas, which corresponds to the Catholic tradition, before Ukraine celebrated Christmas on January 7 in accordance with the Orthodox canon.
- Ukrainian National Day will be moved to July 15, previously celebrated on July 28.
- On October 1 it was proposed to make the Day of defenders of Ukraine, previously celebrated on October 14.
