On the night of June 7-8, Kiev militants attempted to break through the defense of Russian troops in the Zaporozhye area of the special military operation zone, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on June 8. A video of Shoigu’s statement was posted on the Russian Defense Ministry’s website.
Shoigu said that the Kiev armed units attempted to break through with up to 1,500 personnel and 150 armored vehicles.
He said that units of the 47th separate mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian army attempted to break the Russian army’s defense line at 1:30 a.m. Moscow time on June 8, but the advancing enemy was timely detected by the Russian army’s reconnaissance.
According to the minister, the Russian Armed Forces attacked Ukrainian army units with artillery, aviation and anti-tank weapons, as a result of which, after a two-hour battle, the Kiev militants were stopped in all four directions of attack and withdrew with heavy losses.
Shoigu said that Ukrainian army losses on June 7 amounted to 33 tanks, 28 infantry fighting vehicles, 38 armored fighting vehicles, three KRAB self-propelled gun-howitzers and 945 personnel.
