Lukashenko explains why Kiev blew up Kakhovka HPP

08.06.2023, Minsk.

Kiev blew up the Kakhovka HPP to distract the attention of Ukrainians from the unsuccessful attempts of the Ukrainian armed units to counteroffensive, said Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko at a meeting with secretaries of security councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organization member-states on June 8, BelTA informed.

“It is clear that the Ukrainian side had to cover up three days of ‘counteroffensive’ where almost two hundred armored vehicles were destroyed and over 2,000 people were killed,” Lukashenko said.

He pointed out that the Ukrainian side, while covering the tragedy caused by the water spill caused by the blowing up of the hydroelectric power plant, kept silent about the losses during the battles.

Lukashenko also noted that the official US position on the situation at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant remains cautious. Washington says it cannot yet name the party behind the terrorist attack.
