Kiev has officially requested the Taurus cruise missiles with a range of 500 kilometers from Germany, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung wrote on May 27, citing its sources.
According to the newspaper, the German Defense Ministry confirmed Ukraine’s request for the missiles. However, a representative of the German chancellor did not comment on this fact.
“Berlin is now faced with a dilemma: the missiles may be compatible with the F-16s that the West can provide to Kiev, and it is not certain that ‘Ukraine will reasonably use such weapons as the Taurus’,” the newspaper wrote.
In early May 2023, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed deliveries of the Taurus to Kiev in Berlin.
