Kurginyan: Russia has always been an alternative West

04.04.2023, Moscow.

Russia has always been a territory of historical movement that is alternative to the West, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in an interview to the BelTA Belarusian channel published on March 23.

Kurginyan noted that Soviet experience should be used in Russia. However, he warned against copying it directly; instead, we should focus on the synthesis of various periods.

Nevertheless, certain synthesis of various things should be made in order to build a model based on such synthesis, which would be neither Eastern nor Western, the political scientist explained.

Kurginyan added that “Russia has always been an alternative West.” He pointed out the Christian traditions of the country, and he stressed that Russia in this sense is an “East of Christ,” as opposed to an “East of Xerxes.”

At the same time, the political scientist indicated Russia’s difference from the East because it is seeks a historical movement. He stressed that Russia has always been “a territory of history seeking to continue history, with the understanding that there is no love without history, a territory of Love and History, an absolutely mysterious place.”

However, Kurginyan explained that the East largely refuses to have any historical movement of its own. It borrows the motion engine from the West, because it can only follow a cyclical circular trajectory.
