Kurginyan: The Belovezhye accords were much worse than the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

The Belovezhye Accords that formalized the disintegration of the USSR were effectively worse than the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk of 1918 in terms of both the losses and their duration, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on February 10 on the program Conversation with a Sage on the Zvezda radio station.

The pause of ‘filthy Brest’ for which Lenin is strongly criticized – how long did it last? Less than one year. Who terminated that pause, who canceled that filthiness? Lenin himself, when he threw the torch of the world revolution to Germany, where riots began in November 1918. Germany collapsed, the Germans fled, and ‘the filthy Brest’ ended. [It lasted] nine months, Kurginyan reminded about the events that ended World War One.

The political scientist stressed that the judgment of Lenin himself in this event is not really relevant, because we have a historical fact: after nine months Russia began to take back everything it lost as a result of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

Kurginyan suggested that the results of the Belovezhye accords of the end of 1991 should be assessed based on similar objective considerations.

What are the Belovezhye accords? They are worse than the ‘filthy Brest!’ Because all the territories we lost after the ‘filthy Brest’ we lost after the Belovezhye accords, too. In addition, we lost, besides, Transcaucasia and Middle Asia, whatever you think about it. How long does it last? Nine months? It continues after thirty years! the political scientist stressed.

He noted that in this context of this comparison, any statements that “we won the Cold War together with the USA” as well as any speculations that “no one lost anything are absolutely unreasonable.

Come to your senses! Wash your face with cold water, look at the map and understand that the president of Russia [Vladimir Putin] said that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a geopolitical catastrophe… This means we lost a hell of a lot! Kurginyan concluded.

He stressed that we lost not only territories, because after its defeat in the cold war Russia took the path of Westernization, and it began to destroy its own most advanced productive forces. Also, the country has been losing its population, the political scientist indicated.

On February 8, Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said that Russia and the USA together won the cold war, but the USA “for some reason artfully claimed the victory.” He provided no details regarding against whom, in his opinion, the USA and Russia fought.
