Spanish politician is concerned that Spanish soldiers might be sent to Ukraine

Spanish Minister of Social Rights and leader of Podemos party Ione Belarra does not rule out that Spanish soldiers may be sent to help Kiev, TASS reported on February 17.

According to the minister, over the past year, “European governments repeatedly talked about things they have always said they would not do.”

“First they told people that they would only send defensive weaponry to Ukraine, and that we would never send offensive weaponry because of the high risks it would entail,” Balerra noted.

At the same time, Balerra recalled that European countries and the USA were now sending weapons to Ukraine.

“Today they tell us that Spanish soldiers will never fight in Ukraine, they also tell us that there will be no US soldiers flying fighter jets because that would mean, to quote US President Joe Biden literally, ‘World War III’,” Belarra said.

As the senior official noted, there is absolutely no guarantee that the authorities will not go back on their word.

Previously the Podemos party opposed sending tanks to Ukraine, saying that the conflict should be resolved peacefully.
