Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera confirmed the fact of receipt of fertilizers from Russia during his annual address to the nation on February 17.

Lazarus Chakwera said that the government had already received a donation of 20,000 tons of fertilizer from the Russian company UralKhim. He stressed that the fertilizer was received as part of economic diplomacy.

On November 12, 2022 the Russian company “Uralkhim-Uralkali” made an agreement to transfer the fertilizers blocked within the European sanctions to the African countries – as a humanitarian action. The first fertilizer ship left the Netherlands on November 29 and arrived in Mozambique on December 31. Then, on January 23, the unloading began and was completed by January 27.
