Poland’s former foreign minister: Poland was thinking about dividing Ukraine

23.01.2023, Warsaw.

Polish authorities considered the option of partitioning Ukraine during the first days of the Russian special operation, former Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on January 23 on the air of Zet radio station.

Sikorski was asked whether he believed that the Polish government, at some point in Russia’s special military operation, was thinking about dividing Ukraine. The former minister answered positively.

“I think there was a moment of hesitation in the first ten days of the war, when we all didn’t know how it would go, and maybe Ukraine would collapse,” Sikorski said.

He explained that Zelensky’s heroism and help from the West kept the situation together. If not, he said, events could have developed differently.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki denied Sikorski’s statement, writing on his Twitter page that the former minister’s statements were no different from Russian propaganda.

“The former foreign minister should weigh his words. I expect him to retract these shameful statements,” Morawiecki said.
