The UAE foreign minister’s visit to Damascus symbolizes Abu Dhabi’s intention to continue its own foreign policy course even under pressure from Washington, expert of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) Kirill Semyonov wrote on January 6 on his Telegram channel.
“Thus, Abu Dhabi, despite pressure from Washington, intends to continue pursuing its own foreign policy course and will not deviate from the chosen path,” Semyonov wrote.
The UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in Damascus with an official visit on January 4. In the Syrian capital, he met with President Bashar al-Assad.
The Middle East Institute (USA) called the UAE minister’s visit to Damascus alarming.
