General Secretary of Communist Party of Russian Federation told if it was possible to avoid the disintegration of the USSR in 1991

The collapse of the USSR could have been prevented if people had defended their interests more energetically, general secretary of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov told RIA Novosti on December 15.

Zyuganov cited the example of China, which, in his opinion, showed how to act to prevent the country’s destruction.

“If only a couple of courageous commanders could have arrested Yeltsin and his conspirators in Belovezhye in 1991, and the people would have defended their interests more energetically, then we would have taken the leading position, but at the moment we are experiencing the systemic crisis,” said the politician.

According to the head of the Russian Communist Party, the Soviet Union has shown, “having united under its banner 190 peoples and nationalities,” how to preserve the language, faith and culture of each nation in a large country without destroying the identity of any of them.

Zyuganov is convinced that the USSR was based not on “nationalism or imperial traditions,” but on “labor, peace and justice.”

Zyuganov emphasized that another major achievement of the Soviet power is that after the collapse of the Russian Empire, it was able to rebuild the country, although it inherited “ruined economy, collapsed system of transportation, scattered army, all the social and cultural sphere were paralyzed.”

December 30 this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the USSR. The Belovezhye Accords, which declared the dissolution of the USSR and the establishment of the Commonwealth of Independent States, were signed on 8 December 1991.

Sergey Kurginyan, a philosopher, political analyst and leader of the Essence of Time movement, said on November 25 that Ukraine in its current borders was created by the criminal Belovezhye Agreements, and that this issue should be discussed in detail because otherwise it may seem that Russia is behaving “like a bull in a china shop” in Ukraine. Kurginyan explains that Russia must show its defends its right and essence, not destroying everything.
