Schools in India and Russia agree to create Tolstoy and Gandhi Centre in Delhi

A Russian-Indian cultural and educational center of Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy will be established in the Indian capital. The Delhi Public School Dwarka and Moscow school № 1409 signed the corresponding agreement, the press service of the Russian Embassy in India reported on December 14.

The statement reads that the establishment of the center was part of a socio-cultural program “BRICS Peoples Choosing Life.” The president of the regional public organization “BRICS. World of Traditions” Lyudmila Sekacheva confirmed this.

“Today, Delhi Public School Dwarka hosted a historic event: the birth of Tolstoy and Gandhi Cultural and Educational Centre was celebrated here. The Delhi school will become a place of attraction for the young generation of Russia and India, striving for friendship, harmony and mutual understanding,” she said.

The establishment of the centre on the basis of the Indian school was appreciated by its principal Sunita Tanwar. He called it a great honour for the school.

“The creation of this center and joint study of the moral heritage of the great thinkers Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi will be a great opportunity for our students,” Tanwar stressed.

The BRICS Peoples Choosing Life program is designed for the member countries of this association and will run till 2025. It is divided into phases. The Indian phase is the first, it was launched on Monday, December 12 in New Delhi. The 10 events will be held from December 12 to 20 with around 1,500 participants in New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune. They also include a business part with a presentation of goods and technologies of Russian enterprises.
