Russian Foreign Ministry: Russia suspends its participation in grain deal because of Ukraine’s attack on Sevastopol

29.10.2022, Moscow.

Moscow decided to suspend the grain deal for an unspecified period of time in connection with the terrorist attack on the Russian base in Sevastopol, which was carried out by the Ukrainian armed units under the command of British consultants, a statement released by the Russian Foreign Ministry reads on October 29.

A humanitarian corridor for the export of Ukrainian grain through Black Sea ports allowed the Ukrainian military to carry out the attack on October 29 using UAVs.

The ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, as well as civilian ships involved in the grain deal, were attacked by nine drones and seven sea-based autonomous UAVs. All of the vehicles were shot down.

In its statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry qualified the attack as an act of terrorism, “In connection with the actions of the Ukrainian armed forces, led by the British specialists, directed, among other things, against Russian vessels ensuring the operation of the humanitarian corridor (which cannot be qualified otherwise than as an act of terrorism), the Russian side cannot guarantee safety of civilian dry cargo ships participating in the Black Sea Initiative and suspends its implementation as of today for an indefinite term”.
