Russia and Iran to launch their own analogue of SWIFT

18.10.2022, Tehran.

A Russian-Iranian system for financial transactions and payments similar to SWIFT will start operating in the next two to three months, Russian Trade Representative to Iran Rustam Zhiganshin said at a meeting with members of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tehran on October 18, the Iranian news agency Tasnim reported.

“The decision to create an analogue of the SWIFT system will be made at a meeting of the Russian-Iranian commission on trade and economic cooperation. If the countries can reach a final agreement on this issue, the system will be able to begin functioning in the next two to three months,” the Russian trade representative said about the prospects of establishing transactions between the banking systems of the two countries.

Earlier, Aleksandr Pankin, Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that Moscow is going to gradually switch to protected mechanisms of transmitting financial information instead of SWIFT.
