Moldovan opposition set up a tent camp near government buildings
The unwillingness and inability of the Moldovan authorities to abandon their anti-Russian policy in order to provide the population with cheap gas resulted in an open-ended protest in Kishinyov. The participant of the rally demanded the resignation of President Maia Sandu and the Moldovan government, Rossa Primavera News Agency‘s correspondent informed on September 20.
The protests began on September 18 with a rally organized by the Șor party. That evening they set up a tent city of 120 tents. The next day the rally continued. Radical slogans such as “Put Sandu’s gang on bread and water”, “Moldova needs heating” were heard.
On September 19, Ilan Shor, the leader of the party, announced a new date for the protest action – September 25. The people did not want to disperse and began setting up a tent camp in the center of Kishinyov.
The protesters believe that the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity, led by Sandu, is dragging Moldova into war. Protesters chant: “Down with Maya Sandu.”
The police urged people to disperse and did not allow tents and warm clothes to be brought into the camp. Seeing the order and persistence among the protesters and after negotiations with them, the police did not take forceful action.
“The Town of Change,” as the concerned citizens called their camp, is setting up housekeeping. A total of 120 tents were set up in the center of the republic’s capital, according to the Shor Party.
The police do not allow new people into the camp at night. There was a rally near the US Embassy under the slogan “Down with the Occupiers!”
