Lukashenko: We would have long been crushed and trampled without Beria

01.09.2022, Minsk.

The outcome of the work of the head of the state security authorities and internal affairs of the USSR Lavrentiy Beria, including his effort to develop the Soviet nuclear program, is what now saves Russia and Belarus from being “crushed and trampled” by the Western countries, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko said on September 1 at an online lesson he gave to the students of schools and universities.

Lukashenko urged young people to seek a comprehensive view at the role of outstanding personalities in the history of their country instead of sticking to propagandistic platitudes.

“Let us take Lavrentiy Beria as a historical personality. Well, an enemy of the people etc.! If we judge him from today, as we now have a different information, maybe he was a bad person, but we exist today, and we have not suffered a crusade through Belarus eastwards, because we had Beria, who led the process of making the nuclear weapons. The weapons which I cannot accept, which I hate, but which, fortunately, we have, and which are deterrent weapons. They [the Western countries – Rossa Primavera News Agency] would have long crushed and trampled us if they had not feared a response with our nuclear weapons. And this is Stalin and Beria!” Lukashenko stressed.
