The army of the Donetsk People’s Republic established control of the Uglegorsk thermal power plant, the press service of the Svetlodarsk town administration wrote on Telegram.
The press service conveyed congratulations on behalf of the town administration to “the people of Svetlodarsk and all residents of the Donetsk People’s Republic on this truly great historical event for us.” It expressed sincere gratitude to the DPR soldiers “for the liberation of the main town enterprise, one of Europe’s largest thermal power plants.”
The press service reported that the DPR armed units had mopped up Novoluganskoye village and the territory of the Uglegorsk thermal power plant near the town of Svetlodarsk.
Earlier it was reported that the mayor of the city of Debaltsevo Igor Zakharevich reported that the TPP is under the operational control of the DPR forces, but it is still being mopped up from the Ukrainian soldiers.
The Uglegorsk thermal power plant is one of the largest thermal power plants in Europe. It is a powerful thermal power plant capable of generating up to 3,600 MW of electricity. The TPP is located approximately three kilometers from the satellite town of Svetlodarsk, as well as the villages of Mironovskoye and Novoluganskoye.
